At one point Cher’s “Believe” came on the radio and I could hear the clippy bass that is so prevalent in today’s “club” music! I could hear clipping over the radio! We will be hard pressed to get much better than this! (Watch - 2 years right?)

1. Speed based volume auto-adjust. Yup, as you hit higher speeds the stereo system ups its volume so you can still hear over the extra noise. Cool feature.

2. It has an HD radio!!! Didn’t realize this until we were flipping through stations while parked. All kinds of data started showing up. It was really cool. It does sound better, too. At first I thought it was just better speakers than our older car, but that is not the only reason. Very cool!

I think having the playlist on the website is fine although we are getting spoiled in this digital age when our car stereos have the song playing info on them, but it makes for dangerous driving when a person is reading the little font on the stereo instead of keeping eyes on the road.

I kinda see it like OpenOffice or Google. They go out of their way to provide things that make your life better. As a result, I just want to find a way to thank them. So I pump both and give money to the first.

Google can pay for itself.

Radio head’s comment about having a following is partially valid, but bands that have zero following find a way to promote their music that wouldn’t be so easy otherwise, so it is kind of a two way street… in the old days very few got any kind of radio play.

Anyway, if you’re only going to hang around for 2 or 3, I’d suggest Elephant Evasion and Brents In SPACE!!!! They’re honestly the best ones and I still giggle inanely when I hear them.

Does it just provide the Top 40 songs? Or do you get more beyond that? I used Rapsody for a while and got access to tons more at 20/month.

Still, it wasn’t great quality, so depending.

Not sure if they learn the value of hard work, respond to frontal lobe development or just actually have money.

Surprisingly, iTunes hasn’t had too much an effect. Maybe Amazon will. They give more freedom and worry less about your ability to handle a computer. Not generally a problem for teens.

I’m hoping to. I’ll need to get hold of some lapel mics, which I don’t usually keep around. Radio usually doesn’t need to hide the microphone.

I do have a line on them though. After that I’ll probably need to do some noise control and some tweaks. But that’s the fun part.

There are actually several dozen ways to encode an MP3 file. The better encoders can be costly but they utilize better methods of deciding what to throw out. The file size is the same, but you notice less quality loss.

You showed up at my apartment–microphone and hard drive in tow–and immediately started in on the idea.

After that we recorded a couple station IDs (the files we haven’t been able to find recently) on my system, rather than going down to the studio. Easier when you’re recording 7 second things.

I recently upgraded to Vegas 8, though Brent1 still uses 7. No major audio updates to 8 (unless you’re used to ProTools, in which case you’ll be happy). But the video side, long incorporated (since v4 at least) got some heavy upgrades. HD, Blu-Ray, multiple camera workflow. Some very, very cool stuff. If you work with video.

That’s the other nice thing about Vegas. Audio and Video in one software package. Full editing, full effects, full exports. . .for both sides. In other packages you have to do them separately, dragging video/audio files back and forth. Not so here.

Makes me wonder why no one else has caught on. . .
